The Southern Coast RTAC recently hosted an engaging third session of the Community Schools Level 1 series, focusing on the why, what, and how of Needs and Asset Assessments (NAA). Participants explored the critical role of NAAs in building a shared vision for schools and communities. This session emphasized how meaningful data collection—ranging from satellite data to powerful “street data” insights—can be used to illuminate the unique assets and needs of students, families, and staff.
Attendees learned practical strategies for building NAA implementation teams, designing inclusive data collection plans, and leveraging tools like empathy interviews and focus groups. Guided by the principle that those closest to the challenges should inform the solutions, we explored how to turn raw data into actionable insights for transformational change.
As one participant shared, “The NAA process isn't just about identifying gaps—it’s about amplifying voices, building trust, and envisioning thriving communities.”
Stay tuned for Session 4 on Jan. 29, where participants will continue diving into actionable strategies for community partnership and data-driven planning. Let’s keep championing equity and collaboration in our schools!
